Games we enjoy

We enjoy a wide variety of different games, some you may have heard of, some not. The following are games that we have played and enjoyed, we hope this gives you an idea of what we like. Click on the picture next to each game to go to the Boardgamegeek page for that game.

Carcassonne is an absolute classic. A very simple game at heart, you simply lay a tile (jigsaw like) and if you want to you can add one of your little wooden men (meeples). The meeples let you score points when the feature (such as a road or a town) that they stand on is complete, or possibly at the end of the game.

However, what seems like a gentle game of landscape building is actually a nasty little game of letting your opponent do all the work then stealing the rewards.

Ever wanted to save the world? This topical co-operative game for 2-4 allows you to work together as a team to save the world from 4 infectious diseases. Keep the diseases under control and find the 4 cures before you run out of time. With three different difficulty levels (we have never even got near finishing the hard one) it offers plenty of replay value.

One of the classic economic games. Buy plantations and buildings, supply them with workers to produce crops and goods, turn them into cash or export them for points. The more money you earn, the more buildings you can buy.

Each round you select a role which lets you improve your position - but all the other players can benefit from your choice as well. The game is all about timing the selection of your role to give you maximum benefit and your opponents minimum help.

Arguably the game which started the 'euro game' movement. A simple game of building roads and towns, collecting and trading resources made nasty by 'the robber'.

A simple 'card driven wargame' for two which plays in half an hour (we usually play once as each side, so a full scenario lasts an hour). Bags of fun with lots of lovely plastic men, tanks and artillery. Brings out the little boy in all of us.

The base game comes with US and German troops and is set around D-day. Expansions cover the Eastern Front (Russian troops), the Pacific (Japanese troops), the Mediterranean (British troops) and add aeroplanes.

The big one - currently number 1 game on Boardgamegeek with an avid following. Not bad for a game about subsistence farming in the middle ages. Yes, I know that sounds boring but it is a game that has you on the edge of your seat with several tough decisions every turn.

Do I play safe and grab the food? (harvest is coming and running out of food is a great way to lose this game), do I build fences to hold animals? build a new room so I can expand my family? or do I spend time and resources improving my farm?

Yes, I know that still sounds boring actually, but believe me this is 2-3 hours of intense, brain-burning, gaming fun.

I am still not selling it am I?
